Rich River Garden Mulch

  1. Make a frame from available materials – e.g. timber, old sleepers, bricks, tyres or even an old bath.
  2. Cover the base with newspaper half a centimetre thick (avoid cardboard or coloured paper).
  3. Water Lightly.
  4. Cover with Rich River lucerne mulch. This mulch is precut to assist with decomposition and to enhance its binding qualities (50-75mm thick).
  5. Water lightly.
  6. Sprinkle lucerne with blood and bone fertiliser or chicken manure.
  7. Water lightly.
  8. Cover with 20 centimetres of Rich River pea straw (teased).
  9. Sprinkle layer with blood and bone fertiliser or chicken manure.
  10. Cover the bed with 50-75mm of good compost.
  11. Plant seedlings and water gently.
  12. Keep moist and avoid direct sunlight on seedlings (cover with pots on sunny days).
